Cub Scout Scoutcraft Fun at Lake Sommerville

Pack 424 - family friendly Camping

Our Pack goes on at least 3 camp outs per school year, providing our scouts with invaluable experiences, and we also participate in numerous other events that keep our young adventurers engaged in between these trips. Some of our camp outs are actually transformed into exciting “camp ins,” such as the amazing NASA overnight, where we have the unique opportunity to sleep inside the fascinating facility at Johnson Space Center. Other times, we head out to one of the wonderful campsites managed by the Sam Houston Area Council (SHAC) located around the area, like the scenic Bovay Scout Ranch and the picturesque Lake Sommerville. Each trip we take, whether an overnight adventure under the stars or a day filled with activities, fosters camaraderie and sparks curiosity in our scouts.

Camping - Fun activities

Nature, shooting sports, Scoutcraft, waterfront fun, and more! The essential elements that make summer resident camp fun for Cub Scouts are founded in what makes Scouting great for our youth.

Shooting Sports on the Range

At official BSA facilities we offer our young scouts the opportunity for shooting sports! These can be wrist rockets (Slingshots), BB guns, or Archery! All events are led by certified range masters and every safety precaution is taken to make sure our kids are safe.

Waterfront Fun

At numerous facilities throughout the SHAC (Sam Houston Area Council) area, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) offers a wide variety of exciting activities including canoeing, kayaking, swimming, fishing, and much more! These outdoor adventures provide participants with the opportunity to enjoy nature, develop essential skills, and create lasting memories with friends and fellow scouts!

Hikes into Nature

Both the Bovay Scout Ranch and Lake Sommerville offer wonderful hikes whether is in the fall at “Trail or Treat” on in the spring along the picturesque Lake Sommerville.

Scoutcraft & Handicraft Fun

From knot-tying to whittling, Scoutcraft is all of the skills which Scouts learn as part of their Scouting adventure. Summer camp is where Cub Scouts will learn about using knives, axes, and other tools safely around themselves and others. Handicraft gives them the chance to bring home a keepsake of their time at camp in woodworking and leatherworking projects.

At Pack 424 we work with our local council to offer safe and educational, fun for the whole family, camping events. Camping is usually associated with tents, but can be unique locations like NASA’s JSC or the USS Lexington. All is done with the safety of the Scout and their families in mind.

We’ve camped at numerous facilities in and around Houston and all the way down to Corpus Christi.

YES!!! Cub Scouts is about family and while at least 1 parent needs to accompany their child we urge you all to come and enjoy the events!

We can help you get situated with the equipment you’d need to take you and your scout camping with the Pack. If you join up at the beginning of the school year, there will be an orientation where we will go over that. If you happen to join mid-year, we will personally help you make sure you have everything you need.
